Career and Technical Education Job Fair

What: Baltimore County Public Schools, the 25th largest school system in the nation, is hosting a Teacher Job Fair for talented, highly qualified educators interested in joining Team BCPS. The school system is recruiting for all teacher positions. Benefits include health insurance, dental and vision plans, retirement plans, and paid leave.
When: Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 4 – 6 p.m.

Southwest Academy students to visit the Baltimore Museum of Industry

What: Magnet students from the Southwest Academy will visit the Baltimore Museum of Industry and participate in challenges to help them develop comprehension and problem-solving skills; encourage teamwork and self-confidence; and promote meaningful mentor relationships with engineering professionals.

Annual Spelling Bee at Southwest Academy

What: At the PTSA’s Annual Spelling Bee at Southwest Academy, students will compete for first place as they spell a wide array of vocabulary words.

Maryland 529 Parent Information Session at Catonsville Middle

What: – formerly the College Savings Plans of Maryland – has scheduled Parent Information Night sessions this winter and next spring at seven of Baltimore County’s middle schools. The meetings are open to all Baltimore County parents who are interested in learning more about the plans. For more information, contact the program at 1-888-4MD-GRAD (1-888-463-4723).

Middle School Honors Concert

What: More than 240 of Baltimore County's finest student musicians will perform at the annual Baltimore County Public Schools Middle School Honors Concert. Conductors for the concert include Andrew Spang, of Howard County Public Schools, directing the Honor Band; Dr. Alyson Moore, of The Bryn Mawr School, directing the Honors Chorus; and Bonnie Zeitler, of Howard County Public Schools, directing the Honors Orchestra. There is no charge for the concert, and tickets are not required.

Southwest Academy to host STEAM-SEL challenge

What: Southwest Academy will a STEAM-SEL (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics social emotional learning) challenge. During an extended homeroom, students will build a marshmallow toothpick bridge! Students will discuss social emotional- learning strategies that they used to complete the challenge, and to keep members in the green zone.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

What: Youth Mental Health First Aid Training is designed to help parents and others to identify whether an adolescent is exhibiting signs and symptoms of mental illness or is in crisis, along with skills needed to assist youth. Applications available for at-large Baltimore County school board seat

What: The Baltimore County School Board Nominating Commission is accepting applications for the Board’s vacant at-large seat. The individual selected for this seat will fill the remaining vacated term, which ends December 2022. Following the 2014 and 2017 Maryland General Assembly sessions, the composition and selection of the Board of Education of Baltimore County changed. Beginning in 2018, the Board became a hybrid Board by including both appointed and elected members. Seven members of the school board are elected, while four members of the Board are appointed by the governor. The Baltimore County School Board Nominating Commission has the task of selecting nominees to recommend to the governor for the four at-large positions. The application is posted on the Baltimore County Public Schools’ website. Applications can be mailed to the Baltimore County School Board Nominating Commission, c/o Tracy Gover, 6901 N. Charles Street, Towson, MD 21204.

What: Once each year, BCPS asks its stakeholders – students in Grades 3-12, parents/caregivers, community members, and all staff – to help shape our future and let us know how we are doing. The survey takes five minutes or less to complete and is anonymous. It is available in 16 languages and can be taken on a phone, tablet, or computer.

Special Education Resource Center Workshop: Building Connections and Social Opportunities for our Students and Children

What: The BCPS Special Education Resource Center and Office of Special Education offer free workshops designed to address parent and caregiver needs to care for themselves, their family, and their child. More Grade 5 ballroom dancing during last week in January

What: For the past 12 years, Baltimore County Public Schools has offered weeklong ballroom dance instruction to Grade 5 students in more than 60 schools. The lessons are taught by professional dancers/teachers of ballroom dance. According to dance resource teacher Sonia Synkowski, the program not only teaches students about the dance forms, their origins, and provides practical experience in social/partner dance, but emphasizes dance etiquette and decorum, both valuable character education components. The weeklong lessons end with inviting parents in to see their children dance and dance with them. In addition to the dates below, the remainder of the schedulecan be found online.

BCPS Student Choreography Showcase

What: The Office of Music and Dance Education will host the 2020 BCPS Student Choreography Showcase. The evening will highlight work choreographed and produced by BCPS students. Participating schools for this year's showcase are: Deep Creek Middle, Deer Park Middle Magnet, Dundalk High, George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology, Lansdowne High, Milford Mill Academy, Owings Mills High, Parkville High, Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts, Stemmers Run Middle, and Sudbrook Magnet Middle. As part of the showcase day, students will take master classes facilitated by ClancyWorks Dance Company and receive feedback on their work. Tickets for the evening performance will be available at the door for $5 for adults and $3 for students/seniors. Cash or checks only at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Patapsco Dance Boosters. The BCPS Student Choreography Showcase is a part of Take a Leap Baltimore County Dance Celebration. of dance events in Baltimore County during this month-long celebration is available online.
